Job Title: Experience Associate- Tax Consultant
Tax Associate is responsible for assisting in the preparation of tax returns, conducting tax research, and supporting the tax team in delivering high-quality service to clients. This entry-level role is ideal for individuals looking to build a strong foundation in tax compliance and consulting within a professional accounting environment. The Tax Associate will work closely with senior team members to ensure accurate and timely tax filings, gaining exposure to various industries and tax issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Tax Preparation & Compliance:
- Assist in the preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and other entities.
- Gather and organize client financial information, ensuring all relevant data is included for accurate tax filings.
- Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for tax returns and assist with tax provisions.
- Ensure timely filing of tax returns and extensions, and assist in electronic filing processes.
- Tax Research & Analysis:
- Assist to Conduct tax research on various federal, state, and local tax issues, including regulations and potential tax savings opportunities.
- Prepare tax research memoranda and assist senior staff in communicating findings to clients.
- Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations, applying relevant knowledge to client engagements.
- Client Support:
- Assist with client inquiries regarding their tax returns, notices, and general tax matters.
- Collaborate with clients to collect necessary information, ensuring compliance with filing deadlines.
- Communicate with clients in a professional manner, maintaining confidentiality and fostering positive relationships.
- Workpaper Preparation & Documentation:
- Prepare workpapers and document all relevant information for tax filings in accordance with firm standards.
- Ensure proper organization and storage of client documents, following compliance and regulatory guidelines.
- Assist in maintaining accurate client files and records for audit readiness.
- Collaboration & Teamwork:
- Work closely with Tax Seniors, Managers, and Senior Managers to deliver tax compliance and consulting services.
- Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and discussions on tax planning strategies.
- Collaborate with audit and accounting teams to ensure comprehensive client service.
- Learning & Development:
- Develop a strong understanding of tax laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Participate in internal training and professional development opportunities to enhance technical tax skills.
- Take initiative to develop problem-solving and analytical skills related to tax issues.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s in Taxation or Accounting is a plus).
- 3+ years of experience in tax, accounting, or related fields
- Basic understanding of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
- Strong attention to detail, with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with clients and colleagues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and familiarity with tax software (e.g., UltraTax, CCH Axcess ProSystem, Lacerte) is a plus.
Preferred Skills
- Actively pursuing Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation.
- Entry-level experience in a public accounting firm or accounting department.
- Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to interpret tax laws and regulations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
